I've just received an invite to Google Wave so now I can see what the fuss is about.
Do you have Google Wave? Have you used it yet?
If you don't have Google Wave, do you want it?

My grandmother gave me a bottle of conditioner a couple weeks ago. I used it for about a week straight before realizing you're only supposed to use it once a week. Oops. My hair now has massive buildup and nothing I've done yet is helping. Does anyone here have a great tip for me I haven't thought of? Thank you so much!!

Which actors/actresses are "typecast" the most and what are their typecast roles?
For example, I think Marcia Gay Harden almost always plays the same obsessive/overprotective character.

I am grateful:
1) for my bio-family
Yeah, my parents and brother may be far away, but I felt their love today. We talked for just a bit as they ate dinner together, and I missed them. The stuffing was apparently very good this year, and Dad talked about trying to send some to me in the mail. We might just wait until the reunion, when we can have a small turkey together (or a large one with everyone?). I love them very much.
I spent t-day dinner with the two loves in my life, and L's kids. It was good. The turkey was especially good. Thank you, L!!

Daring Bakers challenge this month wasn't baking at all! Instead, we rolled up our sleeves and made cannoli. It was the first time I'd ever deep-fried anything, and it turned out well!
I topped my cannoli with:
1. Dark chocolate and chopped hazelnuts
2. Chopped peanuts and peanut butter chips
3. Cinnamon chips (definitely my favorite! Mmm!)

( recipe and photo )
To read more about these delicious 3-bite desserts and see more photos (including one off-topic photo of our delectable Thanksgiving turkey), please head over to my baking blog, Willow Bird Baking!

Patrick Stewart on the legacy of domestic violence.
Our house was small, and when you grow up with domestic violence in a confined space you learn to gauge, very precisely, the temperature of situations. I knew exactly when the shouting was done and a hand was about to be raised – I also knew exactly when to insert a small body between the fist and her face, a skill no child should ever have to learn. Curiously, I never felt fear for myself and he never struck me, an odd moral imposition that would not allow him to strike a child. The situation was barely tolerable: I witnessed terrible things, which I knew were wrong, but there was nowhere to go for help. Worse, there were those who condoned the abuse. I heard police or ambulancemen, standing in our house, say, "She must have provoked him," or, "Mrs Stewart, it takes two to make a fight." They had no idea. The truth is my mother did nothing to deserve the violence she endured. She did not provoke my father, and even if she had, violence is an unacceptable way of dealing with conflict. Violence is a choice a man makes and he alone is responsible for it. ... Very occasionally one person would come to our aid – Mrs Dixon, our next-door neighbour, the only person who would stand up to my father. She would throw open the door and stand before him, bosom bursting and her mighty weaver's forearm raised in his face. "Come on, Alf Stewart," she would say, "have a go at me." He never did. He calmed down and went to bed. Now I wish I could take Lizzie Dixon's big hand in mine and thank her.
Our culture, as much as the British one described here, has long fostered domestic abuse by blaming the victims and protecting the abusers. We've made some progress in the last 30 years, but there's still a very long way to go.
While I'm doing links, here are a few more collected over the last few days:
"Nazi twins" a myth.
[T]he team combed through baptismal records, which the researchers say should cover about 75 percent of the children born in predominantly Catholic Cândido Godói. The records would reveal where and when the town's many twin births had occurred. The town's baptismal records date back to 1927, long before Mengele's supposed arrival — and so does the exceptional rate of twinning, the team discovered. Furthermore, the records show no "surge" in twinning in the 1960s, when Mengele is said to have experimented on the local populace, the study says. Also, the high rate of twin births continues today, which rules out a role for Mengele, the researchers say. Had Mengele injected mothers with something to alter their pregnancies, the twin rate should have dropped off when his supposed work stopped.
But Camarasa, the historian [pushing the Mengele myth], still believes Mengele may have played some role. "There is still no convincing scientific explanation of the phenomenon," he said. "There are only hypotheses, and mine is one of them."
Riiight. In the teeth of a very convincing refutation of his "hypothesis" (which rests entirely on memories and "eyewitness identifications" from people talking about events 50 years in the past), he claims there's "no convincing scientific explanation". Sounds like he's taking his tactics straight from the Creationists, doesn't it? *eyeroll*
Also, notice that his technique for getting those eyewitness identifications is severely flawed; instead of presenting a lineup of pictures including Mengele and men with similar features, he just shows them a picture of Mengele and asks, "Is this the man you saw?" For something that happened fifty years ago. How reliable do you think those results are going to be? The man's an egotistical idiot, pure and simple.
106 backpacks.
Note that the recipients here are primarily families who would fall thru the cracks in government assistance programs even if they were available. Note also that this is not a "faith-based" effort, but a pragmatic one; local churches appear either not to have noticed the problem or not to have addressed it.
And after all that, have a unicorn chaser: Pipe Dream.

why in the world do PCs come with delete AND backspace keys? Is there ever a situation where it's vital to have keys that delete backwards AND forwards? You'd think you could just use one of those buttons and move your cursor one ahead or backwards.

So I has some money, guys. Do I want to buy Mass Effect for the 360? It is on demand, so I don't even need to go outside to buy it. >_>

There's a diaper commercial (Pull-Ups, I think) where a Mom is playing outside with her toddler, and is going on about hoping to potty-train the kid soon, because she wants the family to go camping this winter. I've only ever known people to go camping in summer, and I kind of associate camping as being a summer activity.
Do you camp in winter? Is there a specific place in North America where camping is preferred in the winter, rather than the summer? The mom doesn't have a southern accent, and it's way too cold to camp in Seattle and surrounding areas in the dead of winter, which is where the cable feed is coming from.
eta. This person is obviously from Tucson, Arizona.
Are there any specific commercials you hate? Because this one drives me insane.

Okay so the holiday screwed up my paycheck direct deposit. I have $15 bucks to feed four adults, what should we have for dinner?
Did your parents do anything really fun for you when you were a kid? Did you have any really cool traditions? Tell me about 'em

My friend took a pregnancy test (and yes, it was my friend, not me) today when her period was two weeks late. Is that too soon for the hormone to show up? The test was negative. I googled and found conflicting reports on whether two weeks was too early or not.
I'm participating in my first 5k tomorrow morning, and it is going to be cold. I'm not used to running outside, so what would be good to wear?
